
Field Hockey Set for Home Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville field hockey team will open play at Trager Stadium this weekend when it plays host to Miami (Ohio) Saturday and Indiana Sunday.
The Cardinals (1-1) enter the weekend at No. 13 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association preseason rankings. Louisville opened the season last weekend with a 3-0 loss to No. 10 Duke in the Champions Challenge, but bounced back to beat Delaware 5-2. Freshman Haley Jurich began her collegiate career on a high note with two goals in the game, while juniors Nicole Youman, Karah Nall and Rachel Hollenbach also contributed to the Cardinal offense.

Last Meeting: Sept. 1, 2006 - Louisville won 4-3 in overtime Scouting the RedHawks: Miami enters Saturday's game with an 0-2 record after opening the season with a 7-0 loss to No. 6 Virginia and then fell 2-1 to Virginia Commonwealth as Olivia Miller accounted for Miami's lone goal in that game. Note: There will be a familiar face on Miami sidelines as former Cardinal standout Lisa Wasser returns to Trager Stadium, this time as an assistant for Miami.

Scouting the Hoosiers: Indiana enters the weekend with a 2-0 record prior to Friday's game at Ohio University. The unranked Hoosiers opened the season with a 2-1 win over No. 14 American and scored three unanswered goals to beat Richmond 3-2. Meg O'Connell leads IU with two goals in the early season.
Note: The teams met two weeks ago in a preseason scrimmage at Trager Stadium. Morgan Fleetwood and Corey Brautigam scored a pair of goals each as the Hoosiers came away with a 4-1 win. Tuli Lim scored for the Cardinals.
Youman on BIG EAST Honor Roll
Nicole Youman was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Sept. 1. The junior midfielder scored and dished out two assists in the 5-2 win over Delaware. With the effort, she moves within one assist to tying for fifth on the school's all-time career record. She currently has 21 assists and needs one more to tie Jen Kastelic for fifth. Former All-American Jessica Javelet (2003-06) holds the record with 38.
Cardinal Corner
Freshman Haley Jurich leads the Cards with two goals in the early season. She sits among the points leaders with four points along with junior Nicole Youman who has tallied four points with a goal and two assists.
The Cards have won 14 games in each of the past three seasons. The school record for wins is 16 and was set in 2001.
The Cards are coming off of their third straight BIG EAST regular season title.
