LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville football head coach Steve Kragthorpe and junior quarterback Justin Burke met with reporters on Monday to preview Saturday's non-conference road game at Utah. The Cardinals and Utes are scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the game will be televised nationally by CBS College Sports.
The Cardinals are coming off a heart-breaking 31-27 loss to intra-state rival Kentucky last Saturday. Making his second career start, Burke threw for 245 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Victor Anderson recorded his sixth career 100-yard game with 110 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown in the loss.
Louisville took a 27-24 lead with 7:49 in the fourth quarter when Burke hit Trent Guy with a 66-yard touchdown pass. However, after a Cardinal turnover, Kentucky scored with 4:28 to play on a 12-yard touchdown pass. The Cardinals had two more chances to take the lead, but failed to score.
The Louisville defense forced two turnovers in the third quarter, but could only manage 10 points. The Cardinals held the Wildcats to just 346 yards of total offense.
Utah enters the game at 2-1 overall after falling 31-24 at Oregon on Saturday. The loss halted the Utes' 16-game winning streak, which was the nation's longest active streak. It was the second-longest win streak in Utah history. Utah had also won nine straight road/neutral games prior to the setback last Saturday.
