The University of Louisville field hockey team is No. 13 in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I Preseason Poll. The Cards open 2009 in the same spot they ended 2008 after losing only one starter from a 14-7 campaign.
U of L is one of four BIG EAST teams ranked in the preseason coaches poll. Syracuse stands in with a No. 3 ranking, followed by Connecticut at No. 5. Providence rounds out the top-20 list.
The Cardinals will be tested right off the bat when they open the season against 2008 NCAA semifinals and tenth-ranked Duke at the 2009 Champions Challenge. No. 8 Michigan State and Delaware - which is receiving votes in the poll- are also in the tournament field.
The 2009 Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I Preseason Poll was voted on by 29 coaches throughout the country. The first regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009.
