LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville rowers Sam Kayser and Kristin Falovo are representing Team Ontario at this week's Canada Games in Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Kayser, a junior from Ottawa, Ont., and her crews have advanced to the finals in the Double Scull (2x) on Friday, Pair (2-) on Thursday and Eight with Coxswain (8+) on Thursday. Earlier this month, Kayser earned a career best three gold medals in the U23 Eight with Coxswain (8+), U23 Pair (2-) and U23 Quadruple Scull (4x) at the Canadian Henley, one of the premier summer racing events, while competing for her home club, the Ottawa Rowing Club.
"I am so proud of Sam's accomplishments at the Canadian Henley," said Cardinals' head coach Laura Fogt. "Sam loves to race and it is very clear that she also loves to win. The competition at the Canadian Henley is getting tougher and tougher each year and she rose to the occasion. These are great victories for Sam and for Louisville as well."
A junior from Thorold, Ont., Falovo joined Kayser in Team Ontario's Eight with Coxswain, which advanced to Thursday's final, as well as racing in the Four without Coxswain (4-), which advanced to Friday's final. A 2008 All-America selection as well as a two-time All-Region honoree in 2008 and 2009, Falovo, also had a great weekend at the 2009 Canadian Henley earning silver medals in the U23 Eight with Coxswain (8+) behind Kayser's crew and the U23 Four with Coxswain (4+).
"It is great to have two Cardinals represented on Team Ontario and to have all their boats advancing to the finals," said Fogt. "Both Kristin and Sam are phenomenal athletes who love rowing and they love racing even more. It is such a great experience for them to be racing at this level and I couldn't be prouder of them. I'm thrilled they are having fun and enjoying their successes."
