The University of Louisville women's tennis team took the doubles point but were unable to muster enough wins in singles before falling 4-3 to William & Mary Sunday afternoon in Williamsburg, Va.
The Cardinals pulled a significant upset when the No. 1 doubles pair of Lindsey Jones and Jo-Ann Van Aerde beat the No. 37-ranked pair of Katarina Zoricic and Ragini Acharya 8-3. The Cardinals took the doubles point when Bianca Gorbea and Amelia Harris teamed to win at No. 3 with an 8-4 victory.
"I am proud of No. 1 doubles team defeated the No. 37 ranked doubles team in the country rather handily," said U of L head coach Mark Beckham. "This pair has shown great potential and it is finally shining through right now."
U of L scored its other two points when Natalia Baez defeated Barbara Zidek 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5. Cardinal Sarah Miller won at No. 6 by default.
