Fall 2009: In doubles, Jo-Ann was a semi-finalist at Michigan State's Spartan Invitational. She won Mizzou's Ace for the Cure Fall Classic in doubles. She made it to the quarter finals of the UK Fall Invitational, this time in singles. She was the No. 16 seed at the ITA Regional in singles. 2008-09: Last spring, Jo-Ann went 12-7 in dual matches with a 8-5 mark at No.4. She won her match against USF at the BIG EAST to help the Cardinals advance. She had an outstanding doubles season, Paired with Lindsey Jones, she posted a record of 12-3 at No. 2 and went 3-3 at No. 1. In the fall, Jo-Ann went 5-4 in singles this fall. Paired with Lindsey Jones, they were 8-2 in doubles and won their No. 1 Flight at the Missouri Invitational. They fell in the finals in the No. 1 Flight at the Purdue Fall Invitational.
2007-2008: Jo-Ann was one of three Cardinals who posted a 20+ win season in singles. She posted a 23-10 record, going 9-5 at No. 6 and 5-1 at No. 5. She was 8-4 in tournament play and 14-5 in doubles play with partner Lindsey Jones. They went 4-0 at No. 2, 6-1 at No. 3. In the spring of 2008, she lost just one doubles match, including an eight-match streak. She and Lindsey Jones won all three doubles matches in the BIG EAST tournament. In the fall, she won the Flight Six singles at the Michigan State Invitational.
2006-2007: Jo-Ann logged an 11-14 dual singles record, playing primarily at No. 5, with a 5-3 record. She notched wins over Marquette, Iowa, Cincinnati, and Kansas. In doubles play, she recorded a 9-11 mark. At No. 2 doubles, she and partner Bianca Gorbea recorded wins over Minnesota, Denver, and Kentucky and a 3-7 dual record. At No. 3, she played with Natalie Laszkowski and had a 6-3 record with wins over Marquette, Kansas, and Central Florida. In the fall of 2006, Jo-Ann went 8-4 in singles. She won the finals of the Baylor Invitational, beating Emily Braid of Rice for the championship. She was 1-3 in doubles. High School: Jo-Ann was named Sportswoman of Suriname in 2005. Named most improved player of the year in 2002. Van Aerde was recognized as one of the Top 60 incoming recruits for the 2006-07 season by Tennisrecruiting.net. Jo-Ann was ranked as one of the Top 200 Junior players in the world by the International Tennis Federation in singles.
