
Wheeldon and Crabtree Earn Top BIG EAST Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - - University of Louisville men's golfer Riley Wheeldon was tabbed the BIG EAST Freshmen of the Year, while head coach Mark Crabtree being was selected the BIG EAST Coach of the Year on Thursday.
Wheeldon tied for seventh-place with a three-under 213 (70-73-70) at the BIG EAST Golf Championship. The freshman was one of three Cardinals who placed in the top-10 of the Championship in Florida last week. Wheeldon's top performance of the spring season came at the Palisades Collegiate Classic in Charlotte, N.C. April 13-14. The freshman placed third with a 12-under 204 (71-61-72). The highlight of the Classic came in the second round with his 11-under 61 to set a course record and tie a school mark. Wheeldon is currently ranked No. 183 in the Golfstat Cup Rankings with a 72.68 scoring average. Wheeldon was also named to the BIG EAST's All-Conference Team.
Crabtree, who was named the BIG EAST Coach of the Year in 2007, helped guide the Cardinals to their second BIG EAST Championship this year. With the win, the Cardinals received the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals, which will begin on May 14-16. The Cardinals are currently ranked No. 43 in the Golfstat Cup rankings.
In addition to Wheeldon, sophomore Karsten Clements and senior Adam Hadwin were also selected to the BIG EAST's All-Conference Team. Hadwin won the BIG EAST Championship, while Karsten was tied for second overall.
