The University of Louisville field hockey team won the 2009 Longstreth Midwest Spring League Championship by posting a 6-0-1 record in league play.
Playing in their first spring season in the league, the Cardinals went undefeated with wins over Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Indiana and Ball State and tied Michigan State 0-0 in the final weekend of competition. The Cardinals scored 16 goals - tied with Indiana for most in the league - and held opponents to only two goals - the fewest allowed by all teams in the league.
U of L finished the 2008 season with a 14-7 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in the BIG EAST Conference en route to earning a share of their third straight regular season title. U of L spent the entire season in the NFHCA top 20, reaching as high as No. 11 and earning their second trip to the NCAA tournament.
