Women' Tennis Falls to DePaul in BE Semi-Finals

The University of Louisville women's team's Cinderella run ended when the No. 45 DePaul women's tennis team posted a 4-0 win over Louisville in the semi-finals of the BIG EAST Conference Championships.

Blue Demons Dunja Antunovic and Kirsten Gambrell got things started with an 8-1 triumph over Natalia Baez and Bianca Gorbea in the No. 2 doubles position. Katarina Milinkovic and Gia McKnight locked away the point after beating Amelia Harris and Sarah Miller, 8-3.

At No. 6 singles, Milinkovic gave DePaul a 2-0 lead after defeating Harris by a 6-1, 6-0 decision. Harris scored a moral victory as the single game allowed today in the first set was just the second Milinkovic gave up all tournament .

At No. 1, Antunovic earned a win in the top match to tally the third Blue Demon point. After winning the first set 6-1 against Lindsey Jones, she put the match away in the second stanza by a 6-2 decision. Sandra Zmak tacked the fourth and clinching point on the board, beating Jo-Ann Van Aerde, 6-1, 6-2.

Play will begin at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow with the women's championship matches on the Varsity Courts when Notre Dame and DePaul square off. The third-place and fifth-place matches are also on tomorrow's schedule, they will begin after the title contests at 12:00 p.m. U of L will face Rutgers for third.
