The University of Louisville women's tennis team was edged 4-3 by Iowa Saturday in Milwaukee.
"This is a talented team that has run into a rough patch," said U of L coach Mark Beckham. "It is partially due to the injury situation and partially on the amount of pressure they are putting on themselves to win. We will correct this and have a strong rest of the season."
The Cardinals had a promising start, as they won two of three doubles matches to win the point. Jo-Ann Van Aerde and Lindsey Jones joined forces to beat Lynne Poggensee-Wei and Kelci Klockenga 8-5. Lauren Imre and Amelia Harris paired to beat Ally Majercik and Jessica Young 8-6.
However that momentum did not carry into the singles when U of L dropped its top three spots. Natalia Baez pulled off a three-set win over Jessica Young, winning 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. Freshman Sarah Miller beat Ally Majercik 7-6, 6-4 to pick up the other point.
