Louisville, Ky. - - University of Louisville Director of Athletics Tom Jurich announced that Louisville has agreed to a home and home football series with Marshall University beginning in 2011.
"I think this is an exciting series for both schools because of the close proximity of the two universities," said Jurich. "It's a short trip from here to Huntington and we were fortunate to secure large number of tickets for our fans interested in making the trip. I think its also a great situation for our fans throughout the state of Kentucky and the Cincinnati area."
Louisville will host the Thundering Herd on October 1, 2011 and the Cardinals will travel to Huntington, W. Va. on September 27, 2014.
The Cardinals and Thundering Herd have faced each other 27 previous times and have a long history of playing each other. Louisville leads the all-time series 16-11, however Marshall has won three consecutive games in the series, including a pair of consecutive bowl wins. Marshall posted a 38-15 win over Louisville in the 2002 GMAC Bowl and 48-29 win in the 1998 Motor City Bowl.
