NORMAN, Okla. <> University of Louisville senior Derek Fathauer has been named to the 2008 Palmer Cup Team for the United States presented by Monster. The annual Ryder Cup-style competition will be played June 26-27 on the 6,903 yard, par 71 Willie Park Junior designed Glasgow Golf Club Gailes Links when the top collegiate players from the United States tee off against their counterparts from Europe.
Fathauer, Kevin Chappell of UCLA, Rickie Fowler of Oklahoma State, San Diego State¹s Aaron Goldberg, Chesson Hadley of Georgia Tech, Florida¹s Billy Horschel, Adam Mitchell of Georgia and Alabama¹s Michael Thompson comprise Team USA. Horschel is the only returning member from last year¹s victorious American team and posted a 4-0 record during the matches at Caves Valley. The United States - who will be coached by Stanford¹s Conrad Ray - leads the series, 6-4-1, but have lost the last two competitions in Europe.
This is another great honor for Fathauer, who has enjoyed a remarkable career with the Cardinals. He has been a two-tiime selection to the Ben Hogan Watch List and earned All-American and All-Region honors.
³It¹s an honor to be chosen to coach the U.S. team at the U.S. Palmer Cup presented by Monster,² said Ray. ³This group of players represents the finest of college and amateur golf in the U.S. We are looking forward to the challenge of Glasgow Golf Club Gailes Links and a great win.²
