Louisville, Ky. - Riley Wheeldon has signed a National-Letter-of-Intent with the the University of Louisville men's golf team. Wheeldon, who hails from Comox Valley, British Columbia, joins the Cardinals as the 31st ranked junior, according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings. Wheeldon is the fourth member of the 2008 class ranked in the Top 75, marking this one of the top classes in school history.
Wheeldon is a member of the Canadian National Developmental Team and represents Canada in several international competitions throughout the year.
Riley highlighted his 2007 campaign with a victory in the FCWT University of New Mexico Open with rounds of 66-71. In addition, Riley earned two top four finishes in Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) Future Links championships. In the RCGA Canadian Junior Boys Championship, Wheeldon posted rounds of 73-72-74-71 to finish alone in 8th place. Last summer, Riley competed in the Callaway Junior Worlds after earning medalist honors in the Vancouver qualifier. Riley went on the finish T12 at Torrey Pines in the championship with rounds of 74-71-78-73.
"Riley Wheeldon is a great addition to our program," adds head coach Mark Crabtree. "Riley is a member of the Canadian National Developmental Team and brings a wealth of competitive experience. The chance to represent his country in several international events as well as having the chance to compete in the Ron Moore Invitational, a collegiate event hosted by the University of Denver, will enrich background and provide him with a good idea of what college golf is all about. Riley possesses good tools and has the chance to be an immediate impact player as soon as he steps on campus. We have high expectations for Riley and believe that he has the potential for a very nice career here at U of L. He is certainly a great addition to an already promising class of 2008."
