Louisville, Ky. - ESPN has announced that the University of Louisville's season-opening football game against Kentucky will be played on Sunday, August 31 at 3:30 p.m. at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. ESPN will carry the intra-state rivalry live on the national network.
This will be the 11th time that the game will be televised in the 15 years since the teams resumed playing in 1994. ESPN or ESPN2 has carried the game seven times, including 1996, 2002-06 and this season. Last year's 40-34 Kentucky win was carried on ESPN Classic. This will be the sixth time in seven seasons that the game will be played on a Sunday.
U of L favored the Monday night game on ESPN, but Tennessee and UCLA will play in that time slot on Monday.
