The University of Louisville field hockey team gained valuable experience as they began the 2008 spring season March 28-29.
The Cards opened the spring season by hosting Miami (Ohio) Friday evening at Trager Stadium. The teams played three 20-minute periods, collecting four penalty corners each, but the night ended with a 0-0 tie.
On Saturday, U of L traveled to Indiana, where they fell 3-1 to the host Hoosiers. The teams again played three 20-minute periods in which the Cards held a 9-4 penalty corner advantage. Louisville's lone goal came on a corner when Jenna connected on assists Kayla May and Tuli Lim.
"This weekend's competition provided the full-field game play that our continued team development requires," said head coach Pam Bustin. "I am pleased with Team Cardinal's approach and attention to improving their individual game skills as well as understanding our overall team tactics. We look forward to taking all we have learned and experienced into this weekend's competition."
The Cardinals will host the U of L Spring Tournament April 5-6. The tournament field includes: Ball State, Iowa, Michigan State, Indiana, Missouri State, Saint Louis and Ohio University.
U of L finished the 2007 season with a 14-6 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in BIG EAST Conference play, clinching a share of the regular season title along with Connecticut. Louisville will return 13 letterwinners from that team, but only four upperclassmen.
