
Field Hockey Players, Team Earn National Academic Recognition

Twelve University of Louisville field hockey players were named to the 2007 ZAG/ National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad and the Cardinals were also listed among teams in the nation with a 3.0 or higher team GPA.
The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year.
Louisville's academic squad members include: Nikki Auker, Missy Briery, Heather Bustanoby, Casey Diener, Marie-Claire Heller, Rachel Hollenbach, Beth Latham, Tuli Lim, Allison Maffitt, Casey Meizinger, Lauren Schaefer and Julie Anne Smith.
U of L posted a 3.410 team GPA for the fall semester, placing the Cards just outside of a top five finish. Monmouth finished was fifth with a 3.49 team average. Old Dominion led the nation with a 3.68 GPA, American University and Indiana were tied for second a 3.51. Maine was fourth with a 3.50 GPA, followed closely by Monmouth (3.49).
The Cardinals finished the 2007 season with a 14-6 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in BIG EAST Conference play, clinching a share of the regular season title along with Connecticut.
