Women's Tennis Rolls Over Alabama 5-2

The University of Louisville women's tennis team took four singles matches and the doubles point to defeat Alabama 5-2 in Tuscaloosa Saturday.
"This is the most satisfying wins since I have been coaching,"said U of L head coach Mark Beckham. "I am very very proud of my team as they showed tremendous heart and tremendous fight. This win is definitely going to help our confidence, help us improve athletically and help us edge toward our goal of being an elite team."
The Cardinals started out strong by taking two of the three doubles matchups for the doubles point. The No. 1 pair of Bianca Gorbea and Natalia Baez took Paulina Bigos and Andrea Brenes 8-5. Lindsey Jones and Lauren Imre rolled over Alice Tunaru and Tiffany Welcher 8-2 at No. 2.
The Cardinals took that momentum into the singles portion of the match when Imre scored the second point at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Tunaru. Lindsey Jones fell at No. 1 to Welcher 6-4, 6-4 to bring UA to 2-1. U of L's Robyn White beat Bianca Svensson 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 for the third U of L point. UA battled back when Meritt Emery beat Baez 6-4, 6-1. Bianca Gorbea clinched the match at No. 3 with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 three-set win over Paulina Bigos. Jo-Ann Van Aerde scored an insurance point with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Andrea Brenes.
"I almost defaulted this match because we were forced to play outdoors and we haven't hit a ball outside since October. We got an hour warm-up and then came out and beat an SEC team," said Beckham.
