Women's Tennis Falls to Ole Miss

The University of Louisville women's tennis took the doubles point but could only notch one win in singles before falling 4-2 to Ole Miss in Oxford Sunday night.

"This was a very good Ole Miss team and any time you come into someone's home court it is difficult to steal a win," said U of L coach Mark Beckham. "Our team is just as good but didn't convert on some chances when they arose. I see progress and we are still getting better every match."

In doubles, U of L dropped the No. 1 match when Lindsey Jones and Lauren Imre could not keep pace with Nika Koukhartchouk and Karen Nijssen, falling 8-5. They got help from the Cardinal No. 2 team of Bianca Gorbea and Natalia Baez who won their match. The Cards' No. 3 team of Robyn White and Jo-Ann Van Aerde also notched an 8-6 win over Soledad Podlipnik and Preethi Suramanian..

Robyn White was the only Cardinal to carry the doubles point momentum into singles play. She defeated No. 4 Podlipnik 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 with a decisive comeback after dropping the first set. Lindsey Jones was shut out her first set 6-0, scrambled to a 6-4 win in the second but succumbed 6-2 in the third in the only other three set match of the meet.
