Women's Tennis Falls at Ohio State

The University of Louisville women's team fell 6-1 to the No. 45 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes Wednesday evening in Columbus, Ohio.

The Cardinals move to 6-4 for the season and Ohio State improves to 7-2.

"Ohio State was extremely ready for this match and played very well," said first year head coach Mark Beckham. "I think my team came out just a little bit flat and Ohio State to advantage of that right away. We will get back to the practice court and fine tune some things to get ready for a very good Indiana State team that is heading our way on Friday."

The Buckeyes jumped on the Cardinals early, scoring the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. At No. 1, Natalia Baez and Bianca Gorbea put up a fight before falling 8-6 to Angela DiPastina and Christina Keesey.

The Cardinals tried to grab the momentum back in singles, with four of the six matches going into three sets. Lauren Imre took the first set at No. 1 for the Cardinals before losing to DiPastina 6-3, 2-6, 2-6. Gorbea won her match at No. 3 over Keesey by winning the first set then battled back for the win after dropping the second set 7-6, (7-2), 5-7, 1-0 (10-5). Baez took her first set before falling 6-3 and 10-7 in the second and third sets at No. 4. U of L's Jo-Ann Van Aerde was the other Cardinal to take her match into the third set but fell 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.
