
Field Hockey Welcomes Ten New Players to 2008 Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville field hockey coach Pam Bustin has announced that 10 student-athletes have committed to join Team Cardinal. Brynn Adams, Emma Cairnduff, Caitlin Collins, Erin Conrad, Hope LaBelle, Alyssa Moyer, Lauren Schmeing, Heather Stevens, Hayley Turner and Jayme Varco will compete for the Cardinals in the 2008 season.
"I am extremely proud to announce our ten new Cardinals in the 2008 freshman class," said Bustin. "This class is another important piece to our championship puzzle. The talent and determination of this special group, coupled with the valuable experience gained from our skilled returning team will put Team Cardinal in the best championship position to date."
The Cardinals finished the 2007 season with a 14-6 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in BIG EAST Conference play, clinching a share of the regular season title along with Connecticut.
"The field hockey staff and team have worked hard to identify which individuals will best complement our team," continued Bustin. "It is essential that each of our new Cards share our dedication to the sport and commit themselves to representing the University of Louisville in a championship way on and off the field and in the classroom. Each incoming student-athlete was hand-picked by Team Cardinal, and each incoming student-athlete wholeheartedly chose the University of Louisville. Together, the 2008 field hockey team will provide much excitement and a fantastic level of field hockey throughout the Big East Conference and the country."

Lititz, Pa. (Warwick HS)
Adams, a midfielder, was a four year varsity letter winner in field hockey and a three-year starter for the 3-time State Semi-Finalist Warwick High School. During her time there, she played in 117 games and scored 16 goals, while dishing out 14 assists. Adams was a two-time Lancaster-Lebanon League Section I Second Team All-Star. She participated in Futures for two years and won the gold medal at the National Futures Championship in 2006 and in the Keystone State Summer and Winter Games from 2004-2007. She also was a two-year varsity letter winner in soccer and one-year in track.

Kearns, NSW, Australia (Robert Townson HS)
Cairnduff, a defender from Kearns, New South Wales, Australia, played for Robert Townson High School and captained the team in 2007. She was named "Sports Person of the Year" at her high school in 2005, and also competed on the NSW Indoor State Hockey team in 2006 and 2007. Emma was on the NSW Under-21 outdoor squad in 2008, and has been the Campbelltown City Women's Representative Hockey Player since 1999.

Yorktown Heights, N.Y. (Lakeland HS)
Collins, a midfielder from Yorktown Heights, N.Y., played at Lakeland High School where she was named a second team All-American in 2007 by Penn Monto/NFHCA. In 2006 and 2007, Caitlin was named a Penn Monto/NFHCA High School Regional All-American, and garnered All-State honors in 2006 and 2007. She was also named All Section and All League 2005-2007, and received the Scholar-Athlete Award from the New York State Athletic Association. Collins was the Journal News Player of the Year and won Gold Medals in the NYS Empire State Games in 2006 and 2007.

Erin Conrad * GK
Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (Elmer Meyers HS)
Conrad, a goalkeeper from Wilkes-Barre, PA., was a four year letter winner in field hockey, swimming and soccer at Elmer Meyers High School, where she started every game for Meyers since her freshman year. She was an Honorable Mention All-State player in 2004, and was named to Second Team All-State in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Conrad played in the National Futures Championship from 2004-2006, winning gold medals in '05 and '06. She also competed in the Junior Olympics from 2004-2006, winning a gold medal in '05 and a silver in '06. She was a Futures Elite athlete from 2004-2006 and was part of the U-16 National Team/Holland Tour in 2006.

Dartmouth, Mass. (Dartmouth HS)
LaBelle, a midfielder from Dartmouth, Mass., was a four-year varsity player for Dartmouth High School, where she captained the team in 2007. As a senior, she also earned Standard Times Field Hockey Player of the Year honors, and was a Boston Globe Old Colony League All-Star in 2006 and 2007. LaBelle was a two-time Futures Elite selection (2006-07) and a Bay State Games participant (2005-06) and competed in the 2006 Junior Olympics. She participated in the Lead the Way Field Hockey Club from 2001-07.

Winfield, Pa. (Selinsgrove HS)
Moyer, a midfielder/defender from Winfield, PA., was a three year starter for three time Susquehanna Valley League Champions Selinsgrove High School. In 2007, Moyer was named team captain, selected as defensive player MVP, and was the Mid-West Tournament MVP. She was also selected as 1st team Susquehanna Valley League, 1st team Daily Item All Star Team, 1st team Pennsylvania Coaches All-State team, and 1st team Pennsylvania Coaches All-State Academic team.

Louisville, Ky. (Assumption HS)
Schmeing, a forward/midfielder from Louisville, Ky., was a three-year starter for 2005 State Champions Assumption High School. Schmeing was a Future Elite Selection from 2005-2008, and was on the Junior Olympics team in 2005 and 2006. She was named a Penn Monto/NFHCA High School Regional All-American in '06 and '07. Also in '07, Lauren was team captain, named a Kentucky Select 1st team player, 1st team All-Tournament, and a member of the Zag/NFHCA National Academic Squad.

Wilmington, Del. (Mt. Pleasant HS)
Stevens, a forward/midfielder from Wilmington, Del., was a four-year starter and school record holder for career points (146) at Mount Pleasant High School. Stevens was a 2007 Penn Monto/NFHCA Second Team All-American, as well as a Regional All-American. She received 1st team All-State honors in 2006 and 2007 while being named team MVP both years as well. In 2007, Stevens led the state in points earned with 55. In addition to owning the school record for points, she also owns the school record for career goals (51), and assists (44). Heather was named to the Blue Hen 1st team All-Conference and Academic All-Conference from 2004-2007. She is a student in the International Baccalaureate program and member of the national honor society.

North Sydney, NSW, Australia (Mount Carmel HS)
Turner, a midfielder from New South Wales, Australia played for the 2006 Division I KAIZAN hockey club in Sydney, where she received Best Player Awards in 2006, 2004 and 2002. Her Under-18 team finished runner-up in its division. Turner was a reserve for the NSW Under-18 team in 2006 and is currently on the NSW Under-21 squad.

Gloucester, Va. (Walsingham Academy)
Varco, a midfielder from Gloucester, Va., was a four-year varsity starter for two-time Virginia Interscholastic Field Hockey Association state champion Walsingham Academy and the MVP of the 2007 state tournament. As a senior, she was named to the Daily Press All-Stars first team, the VISAA All-State first team and the VISAA Division II All-Tournament team. She was a two-time first team all-conference team member (2006-07). As a junior, Varco was second team All-State, Daily Press All-Stars and VISAA Division II All-Tournament Team selection.
