LaQuinta, Calif. - - Two-time All-American golfer Derek Fathauer stands tied for second place through five rounds in the Final Stage of the PGA Tour's Qualifying Tournament this week at PGA West. The 108-hole tournament concludes today.
The tournament is played over two of PGA West's championship courses, the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course and the TPC Stadium Course, home to one of golf's most diabolical holes, the par 3 island green No. 17 appropriately nicknamed "Alcatraz."
Fathauer is tied with Australian James Nitties at 22 under-par following a fifth round five under-par 67.
Fathauer, after posting rounds of 70-69-65-67-67-338, trails leader and PGA Tour veteran Harrison Frazer by five shots heading in to today's final round. Frazer posted a fourth round 13-under par 59 to help distance himself from the field. Fathauer, Harrison and Nitties tee off No. 1 of the Nicklaus Tournament Course at 10:10 a.m.
The 156-man field competes over six rounds with the top 25 and ties earning their 2009 PGA Tour card. The next 50 finishers earn full-time status on the Nationwide Tour with the remaining players earning partial status on the Nationwide Tour.
Live scoring is located on the internet at www.pgatour.com. Final round television coverage will be on the Golf Channel from 3:30 - 7 p.m.
