
Matiasovska and Landi Earn Post Season Honors in Volleyball

University of Louisville senior outside hitter Jana Matiasovska earned to the Third Team All-American honors as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for the 28th annual AVCA Division I All-America Teams for women's volleyball. Junior setter/outside hitter Justine Landi made the Honorable Mention List as well. The awards will be presented Dec. 19, 2008, at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet at the Qwest Convention Center in Omaha, Neb.
Each of the three AVCA All-America Teams is comprised of 14 athletes. The Division I AVCA National Player of the Year will be announced on Dec. 19 at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet.
Matiasovska, of Bratislava, Slovakia, was named to the AVCA All-Region First Team earlier this month and was the BIG EAST Championship Most Outstanding Player and First Team All-Conference. She hit .325, had 323 kills and 57 blocks for the Cardinals.
Junior right side hitter/setter Justine Landi received Honorable Mention All-American Honors. She was named to the AVCA All-Region First Team and was All-BIG EAST and All-BIG EAST Tournament. She had 353 kills, 27 aces and notched four double-doubles this year.
"We are very proud of Jana and Justine. They both overcame obstacles with Jana being hurt and Justine stepping in at setter for us midway through the season and we played great down the stretch because of their hard work," said Leonid Yelin, U of L head coach. "I am glad they got the recognition they deserved."
