
Former Cardinal Golfers Compete at PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament

Callaway Gardens, GA - - Former University of Louisville Cardinal golfers, Derek Fathauer and Adam Rainaud finished competing at the PGA Tour's Second Stage of the Qualifying Tournament on Saturday. The PGA Tour sponsor's the Qualifying Tournament as an avenue to earn full-time playing status on the Tour. Thousands of professional golfers compete over the course of three to four stages in a six week span to earn their PGA Tour card for the up-coming season.
Adam Rainaud successfully advanced through this year's Pre-Qualifying and First Stage in his first attempt since turning professional earlier this year following his tie for 13th place at the 2008 NCAA Championship. Derek Fathauer earned an exemption directly to the Second Stage after competing in the 2008 United States Open in June and playing all four rounds.
Both Cardinal golfers competed this past week in one of four Second Stage sites at Callaway Gardens, GA, site of the former Buick Classic on the PGA Tour. The field of 78 golfers competed for the low 20 spots to advance to the Final Stage to be held December 3 - 8, 2008 at PGA West in LaQuinta, CA.
Former PGA Tour winners Chris Riley and Robert Damron earned medalist honors by posting a score of 17-under par over four rounds on the par 72 layout. Derek Fathauer finished T11 to advance to the Final Stage after rounds of 70-72-68-68-278 (-10). Adam Rainaud failed to advance after finishing T45 with rounds of 72-70-70-72-284 (-4).
