The University of Louisville volleyball team inked two this week with Kasey Heckelman, of Bloomington, Illinois and Brooke Mattingly of St. Henry, Ohio signing national letters-of-intent to continue their volleyball careers with the Cardinals.
Heckelman, a 6-1 outside hitter from Bloomington, Ill. will join the Cardinals next season . She played for Illini Elite Club and her high school ball for Bloomingto High School. She was part of the 2008 AAU National Championship squad and earned AAU All-American kudos. A 2006 USAV All-American, she also earned JVDA All-American in 2008. Playing for powerhouse Bloomington High, she earned All-Big 12 Conference for the past three seasons. The Bloomington Pantagraph Newspaper named her all-area in 2006, 2007 and 2008. A strong student as well, Kasey was an Illinois High School Athletics (IHSA) scholar athlete in both 2007 and 2008. She also earned recognition as a Big 12 Conference Scholar Athlete in 2006, 2007 and 2008. She also earned Fall Festival All Tournament team in 2006 and 2008. She is the daughter of Rick and Gayle and plans to psychology at U of L.
"Kasey is a very exciting player who comes from a strong team and a great club," said U of L coach Leonid Yelin. "I think she will be a big time player for us. She has good size and we will help her get a little bit stronger. She is a good blocker and a good hitter and one of the few players who can play all around."
Brooke Mattingly, a 6-3 outside hitter from St. Henry, Ohio, will play for the Cardinals next season. She plays for St. Henry High School for Lori Schwieterman and for Grand Lake Club where she is coached by Jeff Marbaugh.

"Brooke is another basketball player that I found at a basketball tournament," said Yelin. "She has good size, good skills and is a mentally strong competitor. I look for her to join our tradition of strong blocking and one day replace Lecia Brown, when she graduates. They are different style blockers but Brooke has big hands and puts up a big block."
She helped lead St. Henry High School to the regional final this fall in a Cinderella finish after starting the season 2-10. She earned first team all-conference, first team All-District 8 and was named to the District 8 All-Star match. She earned second team all-state kudos and played in the State All-Star match while earning all-conference academic honors.
As a junior, Brooke was All-Conference Academic and honorable mention all-conference. Later that year, in club ball, she helped Grand Lake make it to the regionals. She is the daughter of Robert and Mary Mattingly.
"This is one of our top recruiting classes that I can remember," said Yelin.
