Louisville - When you didn't think it could get any hotter, it did Wednesday when the Cardinals took the field for practice number 7.
Temperatures hit 100 for the second straight day, but the Cardinals continued to work hard and get ready for the August 30 opener at home against Murray State.
Head coach Steve Kragthorpe eased up a bit on the tempo of practice, but the Cardinals braved the 24-period practice. Coach does a great job of giving them two minute breaks at the end of period toward the end of practice.
"We have to be smart about how we push these guys," said Kragthorpe. "It's so hot out there that we have no chance. But they haven't let the hmidity effect them. They're a good group of guys who work very hard."
The Cardinals went through a number of third and short possessions with the 1s going against the 1s and the 2s vs. 2s.
Sergio Spencer and Anthony Allen converted a couple of third and shorts and Brock Bolen had two. Hunter Cantwell hit Joe Tronzo out of the backfield on a play-action pass. The defense had one stop when the second unit put pressure on Cantwell and his pass went incomplete.
The Cardinals will do goal-line situations this afternoon.
In a position switch, true freshman Bilal Powell, who spent the first six practices at cornerback, will move over to offense and play running back.
