
No. 14 Field Hockey Defeats Ball State 2-0

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The No. 14 University of Louisville field hockey team shut out host Ball State 2-0 Friday afternoon at BSU's Turf Field.
"I was proud of the complete team effort today," said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. "We had to really fight hard in this game. The team made key adjustments at halftime and remained persistent."
The teams played through a scoreless first half with the Louisville Cardinals outshooting their counterparts 11-1 and holding a 5-1 advantage in penalty corners. Ball State goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett was strong in the cage, collecting nine saves in the first half.
Junior Lauren Schaefer broke through the scoreless tie when connected on a feed from freshman Nicole Youman in the fourth minute of the second half. Senior Missy Briery added an unassisted insurance goal at the 53:16 mark in the game.
Louisville outshot Ball State 20-4 in the contest and had nine corners to BSU's three. Cardinal goalkeeper Marie-Claire Heller (1-2) posted one save in the shutout. Shifflett finished the game with 13 stops and allowed two goals.
U of L (1-2) will play its home opener against Albany Sunday at 1 p.m. at Trager Stadium.
