
Field Hockey Tops Miami 4-1 in Exhibition

OXFORD, Ohio - - Senior Allison Maffitt scored two goals and added an assist as the University of Louisville field hockey team defeated host Miami (Ohio) 4-1 Saturday in a preseason scrimmage.
Miami University's field hockey team struck first, scoring just four minutes into the contest as Mary Hull knocked in a goal on the lower right side off Taylor Florence's assist to give the RedHawks a 1-0 advantage at the 4:09 mark. Louisville evened the score just over seven minutes later when senior Allison Maffitt recorded an unassisted goal at the 11:46 mark.
The Cardinals took a 2-1 lead into the half after freshman Julie Barton scored an unassisted goal at 23:34. Louisville would add two more goals to their tally in the second half as Maffitt posted her second unassisted goal at 55:49. The Cardinals put their final goal on the board with just under 10 minutes remaining in the match when Casey Diener scored a break-away goal off a Maffitt assist at 60:42.
Louisville outshot the RedHawks 14-6 and held a 6-2 penalty corner advantage. Senior goalkeeper Marie-Clare Heller started the game and gave up one goal, while sophomore Heather Bustanoby collected four saves in the second half.
U of L will officially open the 2007 season on August 25 at Michigan State.
