
Javelet Up for NCAA Woman of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS - - The University of Louisville's Jessica Javelet has been named the BIG EAST Conference nominee for NCAA's 17th annual Woman of the Year award. The NCAA announced the 128 conference and independent nominees who represent all three divisions and have excelled in academics, athletics and community service. The Top 10 winners per division will be announced in August and then narrowed to the Top 3 winners per division in September. The Woman of the Year will be announced at an awards dinner in Indianapolis, October 27.
Javelet, a Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. native, graduated with a 4.0 GPA in marketing and is a three-time All-American and Academic All-American. She produced a stellar career at U of L, becoming the school's most prolific scorer and one of the most highly decorated players in Cardinal history. She holds the Louisville career records for goals (69), assists (38) and points (176) and the single season marks for goals (30), assists (14) and points (74). The three-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American has also been named to the U.S. Field Hockey National Developmental Team.
Javelet was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year in 2006, when she helped lead the Cardinals to a share of the BIG EAST regular season title. As a junior, Javelet was the league's Co-Offensive Player of the Year. She received All-BIG EAST First Team accolades in both '05 and '06. Additionally, the NFHCA named Javelet an All-West Region First Team performer for three straight seasons from '04-06.
In addition to her achievements on the field, the marketing major has also earned several accolades for her classroom and extracurricular accomplishments. She was named the 2006-07 BIG EAST Aeropostale Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and earned an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. She is also a four-time member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad. Nominees are selected based on service and leadership activities, academic achievement, athletics excellence, and a personal statement describing benefits she has gained from her experience as a student-athlete.
To be eligible for this honor, the female student-athlete must have earned a varsity letter in an NCAA-sponsored sport and competed during the 2006-07 academic year. As well, each individual must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in her primary sport by the end of the 2007 spring season and must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5.
