2007 Schedule
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville field hockey head coach Pam Bustin announced the 2007 fall schedule. Louisville faces eight teams that ended the season in the top 20 and five 2006 NCAA tournament teams including semifinalists Duke and Connecticut.
"We look forward to another top notch season of competition," said Bustin. "I believe that TEAM CARDINAL will be prepared to succeed throughout our tough 2007 slate. The combination of our experience along with our additional youth, should create a strong balance of attack. The quality of competition that we will face each week will absolutely prepare us for Big East Tournament qualification and beyond. "
The Cardinals begin the season on the road in East Lansing, Mich., where they face Michigan State on August 25 and fourth-ranked, 2006 NCAA semifinalist Duke on August 26. Louisville will then travel to Ball State on August 31.
The home opener is set for Sept. 2 when the Cards face Albany at 2:00 p.m. at Trager Stadium. The following weekend, features a road trip to Iowa City, Iowa to play the 14th-ranked Hawkeyes and Missouri State. They return home to face No. 18 Michigan on September 14 and Vermont on September 16.
Family Weekend coincides with the BIG EAST home opener, set for Sept. 21 against Syracuse. The Cardinals will play host to Saint Louis on Sunday, Sept. 23. Louisville will continue league play at No. 7 and 2006 semifinalist Connecticut and No. 11 Providence the last weekend in September.
October is a busy month with five home matches. BIG EAST foe Rutgers travels to Trager Stadium for an Oct. 5 matchup while 10th-ranked Virginia will visit Trager Stadium on October 7. The Cardinals will go back on the road Oct. 10 to play fifth-ranked Ohio State on Oct. 10 and Villanova on Oct. 14. Stanford will make the cross-country trek Trager Stadium on Oct. 19.
Louisville's Senior Day is slated for Oct. 21, when the Cardinals play BIG EAST opponent Georgetown. The Card will close the season at Trager Stadium on Oct. 25 against No. 16 Indiana.
The BIG EAST Championships will be held Nov. 2-4 in Syracuse, N.Y.
U of L finished the 2006 season with a 12-8 record and a No. 15 ranking in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll. The Cards also clinched a share of the BIG EAST regular season championship with a 5-1 record in league play.
