Louisville, Ky - The University of Louisville men's golf team will host the BIG EAST Men's Golf Championships on Sunday, April 22, through Tuesday, April 24 at the Cardinal Club Golf Club. Tee times will be announced next week, but play will begin on Sunday at 8:00 a.m.
The men's team, under the direction of head coach Mark Crabtree is enjoying its best season in school history. The Cardinals are only one of two schools in the nation with six tournament wins. The Cardinals are ranked No. 15 in the recent GolfStat, the highest ranking in school history.
"I'm so proud of what these players have done to this point," said head men's coach Mark Crabtree. "We are coming off the biggest wins in school history in Columbus. We know this weekend will be huge for our program. We had a chance to win the BIG EAST last season, but fell to Notre Dame in a playoff. We need to close it out this season."
Louisvile and Notre Dame both shot 22-under par, but the Fighting Irish edged out the Cardinals in a playoff.
The Cardinals head into the tournament coming off their biggest win in school history at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate. Playing against a strong Big Ten field, the Cardinals won the weather-shortened event by nine strokes over Michigan State.
Junior Derek Fathauer is ranked 21st in the country and has won two tournaments this season and was second at the Kepler Intercollegiate. He leads the team with a 72.03 stroke average.
