Cards Wrap Up Successful Spring Season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville field hockey team wrapped up the 2007 spring schedule with a successful showing at the Louisville 7v7 Spring Tournament and 11v11 Play Day April 14-15. The Cards finished the 2007 spring competition with a 13-2 overall record.
In Saturday's 7v7 Spring Tournament, the Cards went 5-1 and advanced to the championship game where they lost to Virginia 2-1. Casey Diener led the team in scoring with four goals, Janelle Avila, Missy Briery and Allison Maffitt each had three while Beth Latham and Kayla May also scored for the Cardinals. U of L started Saturday by defeating Ball State 4-0. They followed with a 4-1 win over Virginia and a 3-1 victory over Missouri State. The Cards closed pool play with a 5-0 win over Appalachian State. In crossovers, Louisville defeated Oho 4-2 to advance to the championship game where the Cards fell 2-1 to Virginia.
In Sunday's 11v11 Play Day, U of L topped Missouri State 2-0 and Virginia 2-0.
"I am extremely pleased and encouraged by the team's performance this spring," said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. "Our numbers slimmed to special 12 student-athletes - and these 12 trained like champions, conditioned like champions, and worked together like a championship team. It was so fun to coach them through each and every session. We did not waste one training opportunity to improve! I believe that this group has set the tone for what to expect when we reunite in August and has set the bar on performance for the incoming freshmen. This group is proof that complete dedication and hard work beyond your limits can be fun!"
