The University of Louisville field hockey team earned the 2006 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Team Award. The Cardinals were ranked first in the nation with a 3.60 GPA. This marks the second consecutive year that Louisville has posted the nation's highest field hockey GPA.
"I am incredibly proud of Team Cardinal's effort to remain committed to their academics, especially during the demands of our fall schedule," said head coach Pam Bustin. "To earn this award last year was a fantastic accomplishment, but to do it again the following year, shows the ongoing emphasis on class work that Team Cardinal proudly dedicates."
In addition to the team award, the Cardinals placed a nation-high 20 student-athletes on the 2006 NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, which consisted of players with GPAs of 3.0 or higher. U of L's national academic squad members include: Jenna Ahern, Janelle Avila, Missy Briery, Heather Bustanoby, Casey Diener, Lauren Groff, Marie-Claire Heller, Carrie Jackson, Jessica Javelet, Sara Jerousek, Jen Kastelic, Beth Latham, Allison Maffitt, Kayla May, Casey Meizinger, Andrea Roussel, Lauren Schaefer, Courtney Shepstone, Julie Anne Smith and Lisa Wasser.
