LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville opened the 2007 spring season with a 4-2 overtime win against Miami (Ohio) Saturday, March 24 at Trager Stadium.
The teams played two 30 minute halves with Miami taking a 2-1 lead into halftime. Junior Casey Diener scored for the Cards in the first half.
Jessica Javelet even things up in the second half to send the game into a full 15 minute overtime period.
Junior Missy Briery scored both goals in the extra period with assists from Javelet and junior Janelle Avila.
"We've been really anticipating this first opportunity to compete as a team in the spring," said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. "After losing seven players, it's a matter of who steps up next. I was pleased with entire team's performance Saturday. Miami had a strong team and was deep with subs. I was happy with our fitness level and with the way each player committed to physical conditioning and improving individual hockey skills. The way they came together to compete was an added surprise. I am looking forward to our continued improvement throughout the spring."
U of L will play host to Indiana at 5 p.m. at Trager Stadium.
