BLACKSBURG, Va. -- No. 74 ranked University of Louisville women's tennis fell 5-2 to Virginia Tech Saturday in Blacksburg, Va.
The No. 67 nationally-ranked Hokies, improved to 9-6 on the year with the win. U of L drops to 6-11.
Louisville won two of the three doubles matches to win the first point of the afternoon before the Hokies made their comeback in singles.
In doubles, Tech won the No. 1 contest as Inga Beermann and J.J. Larson beat U of L's Lauren Imre and Robyn White, 8-2. But the Cardinals' pair of Natalie Laszkowski and Jo-Ann Van Aerde defeated Jessica Brouwer and Ashley James, 8-5, at No. 3. Louisville clinched the doubles with a win at No. 2 as Natalia Baez and Bianca Gorbea won, 8-6, over Tech's Jessica Long and Abbey Walker.
In singles, J.J. Larson evened the match with a 6-2, 6-2, win in her No. 5 match against Jo-Ann Van Aerde. Tech took a 2-1 lead when Karina Porushkevich picked up a 6-4, 6-3, win at No. 2 over Natalie Laszkowski and the Hokies increased the lead as Inga Beermann posted a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, win in the No. 1 match against Lauren Imre. Jessica Long won the clinching point with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0, victory at No. 3 over Bianca Gorbea.
The teams split the remaining two singles contests as Louisville's Robyn White defeated Ashley James 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 in a three set win. Abbey Walker took a tight 7-5, 3-6, 7-6, win at No. 6.
