The University of Minnesota women's tennis team defeated No. 72 Louisville in a match that came down to the wire at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis. The shorthanded Cardinals won their first doubles point of the year and went up 3-1 before the Golden rallied to a 4-3 win.

"This was a tough match to lose on the road, especially after the encouraging win in doubles," said U of L head coach Greg Davis. "To get that far and not finish the match off was disappointing. We have had five 4-3 matches this year and I hope we will reap the benefits of the lesson today."

Minnesota opened doubles play with what seemed to be an advantage as Louisville defaulted one doubles match and one singles match due to a limited roster. With a score of 3-3 at doubles No. 1, Minnesota's Alex Seaton suffered an injury that forced her and teammate Ashley Schellhas to concede the match to Louisville as play was retired to injury. In the only complete match of doubles play, Louisville's Bianca Gorbea and Jo-Ann Van Aerde defeated Minnesota's Karina Chiarelli and Tijana Koprivica, 8-6, earning Louisville the doubles point. With the match tied at 1-1 due to the default at No. 6 by Louisville. Minnesota started out slow and quickly fell 1-3 after Bianca Gorbea beat Karina Chiarelli 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 and Natalie Laszkowski dropped her first set 3-6 and then battled to a 7-6 (5) win in the second before rolling 6-1 in the third. Minnesota's Lindsay Risebrough and Danielle Mousseau won on Nos. 3 and 5 respectively to tie the match at three. The showdown on No. 1 between Minnesota's Ashley Schellhas and Louisville's Robyn White tipped to the Gophers when White fell 7-5 in the third. Minnesota continues their season at home against Denver this Sunday at 11 a.m.
