LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville sophomore center/forward Derrick Caracter has been suspended indefinitely after breaking a set of rules he had agreed upon to remain with the U of L team.
A 6-9 sophomore from Fanwood, N.J., Caracter has started four games this season and is averaging 13.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and shooting 59.4 percent from the field. He scored in double figures in six of seven games. He missed 16 games as a freshman due to off-court issues, but finished strong while averaging 10.4 points over the last 10 games of the season a year ago.
Caracter becomes the fifth Cardinal frontcourt player relegated to the sidelines this season. Senior foward Juan Palacios tore cartilage in his right knee on the second day of practice, but he will hopefully return to action within the next two weeks. Senior center David Padgett suffered a broken kneecap on Nov. 18 and is out at least 10 weeks. Freshman forward George Goode did not meet freshmen eligibility requirements. Freshman center Clarence Holloway had season-ending open heart surgery on Sept. 22 and is awaiting word on his eligibility.
Only seven scholarship players are currently available for action on Louisville's depleted roster.
