Fathauer Invited to Compete in 2007 Western Refining Golf Tourney

Louisville, Ky. - Senior Derek Fathauer of the University of Louisville men's golf team has been invited to compete at the 2007 Western Refining Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas on November 19-21.
This year's tournament features four members of the United States Walker Cup team - Billy Horschel (Florida), Jamie Lovemark (USC), Webb Simpson (Wake Forest) and Kyle Stanley (Clemson). Also in the field are six participants in this year's Palmer Cup - Brian Harman (Georgia), Jonas Blixt (Florida State), Gareth Shaw (East Tennessee State), as well as Horschel, Lovemark and Simpson. Horschel finished second at the Golf Classic last year. He is joined by four others returning to El Paso - Simpson, Cameron Tringale (Georgia Tech), Jarred Texter (UNLV) and Brian Locke (Loyola Marymount).
The field also includes both medalists from last season's NCAA Division I and Division III Championships. Lovemark, a sophomore from USC, won Division I medalist honors, while St. John's Clinton Dammann, a senior, took the Division III title and led the Johnnies to a national title.
In all, players from nine of the top 11 schools in the country will be represented in the fielD.
Last season, the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic ranked as the No. 1 tournament in the country for the third consecutive season, according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
In all, there are a record 31 golfers in the field, representing 26 schools.
Throughout the years, many Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic competitors have gone on to pursue successful careers in the Professional Golfers' Association of America and on the PGA Tour. Some of the past champions include Ricky Barnes (2000), Notah Begay (1994), David Duval (1991), Matt Kuchar (1999), Davis Love III (1984), Chris Nallen (2003), Jerry Pate (1974) and Tiger Woods (1995).
Alumni of the Golf Classic have gone on to earn more than $996 million on the PGA Tour. In all, 125 colleges and universities have participated in the tournament, raising more than $600,000 in scholarship money for the participating institutions.
Each university is awarded a $1,000 scholarship if a golfer from that school competes in the tournament.
