PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - University of Louisville senior golfers Derek and Daryl Fathauer will get the opportunity to make their PGA TOUR debuts Oct. 22-28, as they have been granted sponsor exemptions for the Ginn sur Mer Classic at TesoroSM. The inaugural event, part of the PGA TOUR's new Fall Series schedule, will be played at the Tesoro Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. just 10 miles from the Fathauers' home in Jensen Beach, Fla. "We couldn't be more excited to give Derek and Daryl the opportunity to participate in our tournament," said Tournament Director John Subers. "Given their success as amateurs and their aspirations of one day playing professionally, this is an excellent chance for them to get their feet wet and experience what the PGA TOUR is all about. We believe that adding talented golfers like Derek and Daryl as sponsor exemptions allows us to support athletes local to our community." The Fathauer brothers, 21, will become the first pair of identical twin brothers to play in the same PGA TOUR event in more than 25 years. It's the first time since Curtis and Allen Strange played the 1981 Texas Open. "A truly exciting opportunity"--We all look forward to watching them participate in their first ever shot at a PGA event," said head coach Mark Crabtree. As Derek and Daryl have progressed in their golf careers, the accolades have continued to pile up. Derek Fathauer has qualified for the U.S. Amateur three times, the first time following his junior year in high school in 2003, and last summer advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Amateur Public Links. Entering Louisville, he was ranked as the No. 6 freshman in the country, and he earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST team as a sophomore, also winning medalist honors as the BIG EAST individual champion. During his junior season, in which he led the Cardinals with a 72.07 stroke average, he received a repeat All-BIG EAST honor and was selected as a third team All-American. He had his best performance ever at the U.S. Amateur at the Olympic Club in San Francisco this summer, advancing to the quarterfinals of match play. In 2006-07, Derek won three tournaments and finished in the top 10 on 10 different occasions. Daryl Fathauer has played in the U.S. Amateur four times, and was ranked the nation's No. 8 freshman entering Louisville. He has made that ranking stand up, as he was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Year in 2004-05 and found himself on the All-BIG EAST team after both his sophomore and junior seasons. Daryl helped the Cardinals to a top-25 ranking last season with a 73.75 scoring average, third best on the team, while also earning medalist honors as the BIG EAST individual champion. "What a tremendous opportunity for us to play with the best in the world right in our own backyard," Derek Fathauer said. "Daryl and I grew up playing golf with and against each other, and the whole time we have always dreamed about playing together on the PGA TOUR." Added Daryl Fathauer: "We're grateful to everyone at Ginn Resorts for giving us this opportunity. This will give our many friends and family in the area the chance to see us play with the professionals right here where we grew up." The $4.5 million, PGA TOUR-sanctioned Ginn sur Mer Classic at TesoroSM will be televised all four days on Golf Channel.
