Cardinals' Football Diary Day 4
August 07, 2006 | Football
The team will now close their practices for the rest of the season.
The turnout by fans was incredible. There were at least 500-700 people at every session last week except today's workout.
Monday's practice was one of the best of the preseason. Both sides of the ball gave extreme effort and flew around with a lot of emotion. You ccan tell the players, especially the youngers ones, are getting acclimated to how coach Petrino runs his practices.
The temp has definitely picked up on day four of camp. Junior wide receiver Harry Douglas continues to make big play after big play. He made an acrobatic, diving catch on a pass from Brian Brohm on the sidelines and also spli the safeties for another long touchdown pass. His speed and ability to get behind the secondary is going to be something to watch.
Freshman cornerback Craig James is a nice story. Recruited as a wide receiver and forced to enter school in January, James used the spring to learn the cornerback position and has stepped in this summer to be a player that has worked his way into the rotation. He made a one-handed interception on a long pass play and seems to always be in the right position.
The Cardinals did some team work with the number 1 offense going against the number 2 defense and the number 1 defense going against the number 2 offense. The team also went through its first two-minute drill of camp.
Brian Brohm led the Cardinals on an impressive scoring march, finding Patrick Carter in the end zone. All three quarterbacks, Brohm, Hunter Cantwell and Patrick Carter threw the ball very well.
It's a lot of fun watching them throw routes to an extremely talented group of receiver.
I'd also like to mention that you can see an interview with Michael Bush and Brohm on Cold Pizza between 11-12 on Tuesday.
Thanks to everyone who attended practices. We'll see everyone on September 3rd!!!
