
Field Hockey Ready for Home Opener

The No. 14-ranked University of Louisville field hockey team will play its home opener against Miami (Ohio) Friday, September 1 at 3 p.m. at Trager Stadium. The Cards will close out their home weekend against Dartmouth Sunday at 1 p.m.
U of L (1-1) is coming off a 4-1 win over No. 16 Michigan State in the Champion's Challenge. Prior to that game, the Cards opened the season with a 2-1 loss to third-ranked Duke. Louisville is led offensively by Janelle Avila who has one goal and one assist for three points. Allison Maffitt, Missy Briery, Casey Diener, and Carrie Jackson have also accounted for the Cards' early season offense. Goalkeeper Marie-Claire Heller is the reigning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after collected 25 saves, including 17 in the 4-1 win over the Spartans.
Miami (1-1) defeated Northwestern 3-1 in its season opener before falling to William & Mary 4-3 in overtime.
This will be the season opening weekend for Dartmouth which posted a 9-8 overall record in 2005 and was second in the Ivy League with a 5-2 conference record.
