Chaska, Minn. - - Sophomores Derek and Daryl Fathauer of the University of Louisville men's golf team will both have the opportunity to advance in the match-play portion of the 2006 U.S. Amateur Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club.
They are the first two players to advance to match play in this event.
"We've done it before," said Derek Fathauer, who finished stroke play with a 1-over-par 144. "We both played in the 2003 Amateur at Oakmont."
The twin brothers from Jensen Beach, Fla., are no strangers to USGA championships.
Daryl advanced to the second round of match play at the 2004 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship held at nearby Rush Creek in Maple Grove, while Derek advanced to the round of 16 at this year's APL at the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain in Bremerton, Wash.
Derek, who finished stroke play at 1-over 144, faces 17-year-old John Hahn of Hudson, Ohio at 8:30 a.m. and Daryl (3-over 146) meets John Kelly of St. Louis, Mo., at 9:10 a.m.
