
Avila Selected to USA Field Hockey Under 21 Team

University of Louisville junior Janelle Avila has been selected to the USA Field Hockey Under 21 team and will be competing in the USA/Canada Challenge July 25-29 in Virginia Beach, Va.
Avila was selected to the team after attending the Junior National Camp which was held in at the USA Field Hockey National Training Center in Virginia Beach July 20-23. The USA/Canada Challenge is an annual competition between the neighboring rivals featuring U19 and U21 matches in a battle for the Challenge championship.
"I am so proud of Janelle," said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. "She went to the Junior National Camp to play field hockey and learn as much as she could. She worked hard every day and took advantage of the opportunity. Now she can enjoy competing in the USA/Canada Challenge"
Avila, a junior from North Kingstown, R.I., was tied fifth in the nation with 20 goals and 49 points in 2005. She earned first team All-BIG EAST honors and was named to the NFHCA/Dartfish All West Region first team.
