Christy Utter Named EPTC Midwest Assistant

University of Louisville Field Hockey Associate Head Coach Christy Utter has been named an assistant for USA Field Hockey's Elite Performance Training Center's (EPTC) Midwest team. She joins Tracey Griesbaum (Iowa head coach), Amy Robertson (Indiana head coach), Lisa Cellucci (Iowa assistant) on the Midwest coaching staff.
"I am thrilled to be involved in one of USA Field Hockey's top programs for national team development," said Utter. "The opportunity to work alongside these great coaches has been both education and rewarding. I am happy to have the opportunity to stay current with the thought and visions of the USA Field Hockey staff. This has truly been the most intense and educational spring since I have been at the University of Louisville. To be able to add a coaching sting with the EPTC makes this a very special time for me."
Several current and former U of L players were selected to the training squad. Jessica Javelet, Janelle Avila and 2005 senior April White will represent the Midwest in the prestigious national tournament which will be held in Virginia Beach June 28-July 4. Andrea Roussel, Beth Latham and Casey Meizinger were named to the training squad. The purpose of USA Field Hockey's High Performance Training Center is to identify and train potential national team athletes through comprehensive training/skill enhancement sessions and premier level competitions. The centers allow athletes to train in regional areas close to their homes by some of the country's top coaches.
The Midwest Team also boasts some of the region's top players including national team members Barb Weinberg, April Fronzoni, Kayla Bashore and Kristi Gannon. U of L head coach Pam Bustin, who recently returned from the World Cup Qualifier as an assistant coach for the US national team, has also provided valuable input as the squad prepares for nationals.
"This is a great opportunity for Christy Utter to work with some of the top athletes in the Midwest," said Bustin. "It is also helpful for the EPTC Midwest team to benefit from Christy's dedication, enthusiasm and knowledge."
