
Wood Earns All-America Honors

The University of Louisville's Lacy Wood was named to the 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-America third team as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She becomes the first U of L softball player to earn All-America honors.
Wood, a senior catcher from Louisville, Ky., was named as an at-large selection among the nation's top players. She led the Cardinals with a .382 batting average, nine home runs, 15 doubles and 51 RBI. Wood finished her career with a school record four career grand slams and is second on the school's career list for hits (223) home runs (27) and RBI (128). She was a four-year starter and two-time team captain. During her time at U of L, Wood was a three-time first team all-conference selection and was named to the 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-South Region first team.
U of L finished the 2006 season with a program-best 45-11 record. Louisville won the BIG EAST regular season title and earned its third consecutive NCAA tournament at-large bid. After appearing in the national rankings for the first time in school history, the Cardinals closed the year ranked No. 19 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll and No. 18 in the USA Today/NFCA softball poll.
