
Penn Relays Up Next For Louisville Track & Field

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Following a highly successful Cardinal Invitational last Saturday at Cardinal Park, the University of Louisville track and field team will next compete at the 112th running of the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday through Saturday at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
U of L will have 13 athletes competing at the event hosted by the University of Pennsylvania in what will be the Cards final event prior to the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on May 5-7 in Storrs, Conn.
"The Penn Relays is one of the cornerstones of track and field and it's an honor for our program to have 13 athletes competing at this meet," said U of L head coach Ron Mann. "We also have eight entries in `Championship' events and that shows how far the track and field program at the University of Louisville has come in a short period of time. It's every athletes dream to compete at the Penn Relays and we're excited to be involved with this great event."
The first two "Championship" events for the Cards are set for Thursday as freshman Heather Trimiew will compete in the Women's 400m Hurdles "Championship" and junior Emily Turland in the Women's Hammer Throw "Championship" at 10 a.m. ET.
On Friday, the Cards will have four "Championship" events as sophomore Brad Keys competes in the Men's 400m Hurdles "Championship" at 9 a.m., junior Brandon Cook is in the Men's Discus Throw "Championship" at 12:15 p.m., senior Kelley Bowman is in the Women's High Jump "Championship" at 1:45 p.m., and freshman Tony Belt is in the Men's Long Jump "Championship" at 2 p.m.
On Saturday, Belt will return for the Men's High Jump "Championship" at 1:30 p.m., while freshman Andre Black will compete in the Men's Triple Jump "Championship" at 2 p.m.
Also competing for U of L at the Penn Relays on Thursday will be sophomore ZeNai Savage in the women's hammer (11:15 a.m.), Savage and Turland in the women's shot put (1:15 p.m.) and sophomore Holly Geibel in the women's javelin (3:15 p.m.). On Friday, the Cards will have freshman Steven Hnat in the men's shot put (Noon), junior Arthur Turland in the men's discus (1:30 p.m.), Black in the men's long jump (3:30 p.m.) and the team of Black, junior Robert Amedee, Keys and freshman Brandon Newell in the men's 4x400m relay (4:40 p.m.), while Arthur Turland will return for the men's hammer on Saturday (12:15 p.m.).
The Cardinals enter this weekend's event at Penn after winning 13 event titles, setting five school records and adding four more NCAA regional qualifiers at their first home meet of the season at last Saturday's Cardinal Invitational.
Through six weeks of outdoor competition, U of L has 59 individual qualifiers (38 men, 21 women) for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships and a school record best 16 qualifiers (10 men, six women) for the NCAA Mideast Regional set for May 26-27 in Knoxville, Tenn. The Cards have also set an impressive 13 outdoor school records so far this season.
