Cardinal Rowing Hosts 2006 Awards Banquet

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing program hosted its annual awards banquet on Sunday afternoon at the Cardinal Boathouse with a crowd of more than 200 rowers, family members, friends and supporters at the event.
U of L, which continues to prepare for the 2006 BIG EAST Rowing Championships on April 30 in Worchester, Mass., distributed a number of awards in recognition of the hard work and dedication by the Cardinal student-athletes this season.
"This is always a special event for our program because it allows us to honor and recognize the hard work and dedication that our athletes put forth throughout the season," said U of L head coach Richard Ruggieri. "It was also really special to have such a large gathering of friends and family for the event and I know how important that is to our team."
Senior Lisa Terreberry of Fonthill, Ont., was selected by her teammates as the recipient of the Cardinal Pride Award. Seniors Jessica Grigsby (Shelbyville, Ky.) and Jenna Sample (Louisville, Ky.) were named Varsity Rowers of the Year, while freshman Caryn Lasley (Lexington, Ky.) was named Novice Rower of the Year.
Freshman Liz Van Zeyl (Fonthill, Ont.) was named Most Improved Varsity Rower of the Year, while freshmen Lisa Grace (Shepherdsville, Ky.) and Mallory Hamman (Clarksville, Ind.) were named Most Improved Novice Rowers of the Year.
Juniors Jen Allen (Cecilia, Ky.) and Beth Daunhauer (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Kathryn Hagglund (London, Ont.) were selected as team captains for the 2006-07 season, and the Cardinal rowing program also honored outgoing seniors Olivia Brittain, Melissa Grieshaber, Jessica Grigsby, Mandy Moore, Katie Prince, Jenna Sample, Lisa Terreberry and Becky Wohrle.
Following the BIG EAST Championships, the Cards will compete at the NCAA South/Central Regional Championships on May 13-14 in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and attempt to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships on May 26-28 in West Windsor, N.J.
