
Red Team Earns 49-7 Win in Spring Game

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore quarterback Hunter Cantwell passed for 321 yards and three touchdowns while sophomore wide receiver Mario Urrutia had 143 yards receiving and one score to lead the Red Team to a 49-7 win over the White Team in the annual Spring Game Friday night in front of 11,200 fans at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
Cantwell was 20-of-30 through the air to lead the Red Team to 556 yards of total offense, while the White Team was held to 170 total yards on 55 plays.
The Red Team opened the scoring as Cantwell found Urrutia for a 67-yard touchdown with 12:06 left in the first and then increased the lead to 14-0 on a 3-yard scoring run by senior running back Michael Bush with 5:24 left in the first. Bush led the Red Team's rushing attack with 72 yards on 11 carries.
The White Team cut the lead to 14-7 with 14:29 left in the second quarter as fullback Joe Tronzo capped a 70-yard, 14-play drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. The Red Team answered by scoring the final 35 points of the game including touchdowns by Brock Bolen (13-yard pass from Cantwell), Kolby Smith (Two 1-yard touchdown runs), George Stripling (6-yard touchdown run) and Harry Douglas (41-yard touchdown pass from Cantwell).
Leading the way for the Cardinal defense was junior defensive end Brandon Cox with four sacks and six total tackles for the Red Team.
The annual Spring Game closes out the Cards' spring practices. Junior quarterback Brian Brohm, recovering from a knee injury in 2005, did not play in the spring game but was in uniform and did participate in all pre-game warm-ups.
U of L opens the 2006 season on Sept. 2 at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium against Kentucky in the annual showdown for the Governor's Cup.
