Louisville, Ky. - University of Louisville head men's golf coach Mark Crabtree is a happy man. His Cardinal golf team just capped one of their finest seasons ever and things look even brighter for the spring.
The Cardinals, who are ranked 18th by the Golf Coaches Association of America, are in the top 20 for the first time in school history after finishing their best fall seasons ever and have a deep and talented squad.
Sparked by the play of junior Derek Fathauer, the Cardinals won three straight tournaments and tied for first place in the fourth tourney. That's the first time in school history that a team won that many tournaments during a season. Louisville won the Rich Harvest Farms, the VCU Tournament, the Memphis Intercollegiate and came in second at Wolf Run.
Fathauer, who was named a Mid-Season All-American by Golf World, won the Rich Harvest Farms tournament and the Wolf Run Intercollegiate, which gives him four tournament wins. It's the most wins for any player in school history.
"We had an outstanding fall season with terrific contributions from a number of returning players," said head coach Mark Crabtree. "I am so impressed with the improvement with many of the team members. Our ability to be competitive each week out is a compliment to the playethrs focus, dedication and daily effort. Many of the players experienced record-setting type scores which contributed to overall success of the team. I know they will be eager and ready to begin when we resume our spring schedule."
