Lindsey Mango, a 5-6 libero from Naperville, Ill., signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play volleyball at the University of Louisville next season.
"Lindsey comes from Sports Performance, a very prestigious club ... one of the best," said Leonid Yelin, U of L head coach. "Knowing her pedigree, her skill set, her personality and her tremendous work ethic, we are extremely happy to welcome her here at U of L. She wants to follow the steps of our greatest libero, Sarah Drury, who is a member of the United States National Volleyball Team."
Mango played for the Sports Performance Volleyball Club in Aurora, Ill, where she was the starting libero for the SPVB 18-Elite team. She was awarded the "Best Libero" at the International V.M. Filipchenko Memorial Volleyball Tournament in Moscow, Russia. She helped guide her team to win the International V.M. Filipchenko Memorial Volleyball Tournament in Moscow, Russia and the National Junior Classic 18 Gold Division Tournament.
Mango played for Naperville Central High School as a three-year varsity starter. She was the first defensive player to be named "Player of the Year" by both the Chicago Sun Times and the Naperville Sun newspapers. Mango's senior year, as captain, her team was the 2006 IHSA Regional Champion. She led her high school team to become the 2005 IHSA Class AA State Champions her junior year.
Besides excelling on the court, Mango has excelled off the court as well. While maintaining a 4.0 grade point average, she has also volunteered in the community at the Lupus Walk Benefit and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Run. Mango was also honored with the J. Kyle Braid Leadership award. Her parents are Kirk and Chris Mango.
