PROVIDENCE, R.I. - - Louisville's junior midfielder Jessica Javelet and junior back Andrea Roussel have been named BIG EAST Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Players of Week, respectively, for the week ending Sept. 4.
Javelet and Roussel were instrumental in Louisville's 6-1 win over Missouri State and 9-3 decision over LaSalle.
Javelet, a junior from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., scored six goals and assisted on three others last weekend, including a school record-tying five goal performance in the Cards' win over La Salle Sunday. Her two assists against La Salle, combined with her five goals, gave Javelet a school record 12 points in the game.
Roussel, a junior from Somerset, Mass., played solid defense for Louisville and was instrumental in holding Missouri State to one goal. She also helped limit both of Louisville's opponents to a total of 10 shots.
U of L (3-1) will play host to Pacific on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. at Trager Stadium. The game will feature a rematch of the 2004 NCAA play-in game in which the Tigers defeated the Cards 1-0 in overtime to advance to the 16-team NCAA tournament field.
